My nephew is getting married in Canandaguia in July. We will be making a mini vacation of it. I dont know exactly where the property is that the wedding will take place. Its my nephews finace's uncles property. I was curious as to what sights to see etc. I have been there once many years ago for a function with a local Elks lodge, but nothing where I had time to look around. I am going to look things up on the internet, but if anyone has personal experiences or places they favor let me know please!

Hey Melissa -

I went to college at SUNY Geneseo, which is a little west of where you'll be, but I can still make some recommendations...

1) Letchworth State Park - the grand canyon of the east! This might be out of range... its about an hour from lake canandaigua (sp?) Its very beautiful, and has beautiful views of the canyon, and falls at the end. It is all accessible by car, and has some very nice overviews you can pull off for.

2) Taughannock Falls State Park is near Cayuga lake, and take a while to get to, but if you are touring the greater finger lakes region, I'd highly recommend it... its a very large fall, and is pretty accessible.

3) I don't know if you are into wine or not, but the finger lakes region is the heart of the NY Wine country.... there are lots of winery tours, etc. No specific recommendations.

4) There are lots of small state beaches throughout the finger lakes, falls, and lots of small gorges, etc.

5) You should be able to find boat tours... I'm not sure what time of year you'll be there (right now the lakes may be frozen, but spring - fall, there should be several to choose from.

6) If you are interested in native american history, there should be some seneca history related stuff... I think there is a replica longhouse/ museum near canandaigua.

These are just a few off the top of my head... good luck!!
