Anyone have a gas oven?

Hello.

So, last night when I put in some cookies to my gas oven to bake, after about 5 minutes the "fire" went out! Just went out! So, of course, the cookies flopped and when I tried to reheat the oven it just never turned on and there was obviously no gas even coming from it.

Today, there is not even the flame OR the gas when I turn it on to preheat and it just stays cold.

I know nothing about gas ovens... what would cause this? The stove actually works perfectly still...knock wood. there is gas getting to that and the burners work fine. All controls, including the oven buttons and digital timer, etc. all work fine. Its just the oven.

Any ideas what happened? Is there a quick fix or do I have to call someone out?

Thanks for any advice!!

Check your water heater too. If there's no gas getting to either than or the oven, then it's a gas line problem.

It might just be that your pilot light probably went out. The pilot light is most likely located in the broiler toward the back (not sure what kind of oven you have). That's odd though that the burners would still work. Good luck.

Thanks! Yeah, I dont' think its a gas issue cause our water heater works and the stovetop is still getting gas.

How would we go about fixing a pilot light? I know when its gone out on our water heater in the past, DH has reached under and manually lit it, but no idea where or how to do an oven. Do I need to pay someone to do this or can we try it? Is it normal for a pilot light to just go out as I'm baking cookies?? I use the oven a TON, so thank goodness it didnt' go out after I worked hard on a huge meal!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Its very possible the pilot light got dirty & needs cleaning. I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself because you can cause things to come loose & have a greater problem. Contact a local propane company for a service.
