we are contemplating a move to alabama and i was wondering if anyone uses the care center at uab? we have a wonderful care center here that i will be sad to leave, so i'm looking for any stories (good or bad) that anyone may have about the center.

I live in Alabama , but not near Birmingham. I live near the coast. I know UAB is a good hospital, but I don't know about the care center. Good Luck with the move!!

Oh, and one other thing. I don't know where you're moving from but some people who have moved down here get bad allergies. If ya'll do, get some local honey and take a TBS a day. We moved here from Mississippi and a lot of the other "imports" had to do that.

We live in Alabama and my son has been at UAB for a little over a yr- for the most part things have been good. We were at Childrens until he turned 21. He was so ready to leave there- his dr since diagnosis had given up her CF patients- we saw her in private practice unless he had to go in and then we were at Childrens- he wasnt too crazy about having to go back to seeing all the clinic drs and staff. He likes the UAB drs and I do too - of course its been hard for mom to have to let go and let him take over more of his care. The only main negative we had was this past summer when he had a bleed and had to be admitted- wires got crossed and he spent a whole day in the ER before we heard from the CF docs but I do think that was just a case of miscommunication- our first time going in there and not exactly knowing the process and them not getting our messages. I do think its a great place to be for research- he has been involved in several studies. Where are you moving from and where in Alabama? We are in Tuscaloosa about an hour away from Bham. Susan

My 5 yr old son was diagnosed almost two years ago and we go to Children's at UAB and have been really happy so far. They have an outreach clinic that goes to Montgomery about once a month and we go there for our regular quarterly check-ups and to UAB for our annual. I have never been anywhere else so I have nothing to compare it to. If you would like to pm me for any other questions, I would be more than happy to try to answer them.
