Hi, I have a 4 yr old with cf and we have tried a few things. I did see a child massotherapist and she showed me child massage to aid with digestion and respiratory through massage. I did it for a while but it became too much in combination with the clapping, so I don't know if it would have helped or not. I also saw a naturopath who recommended we take her off just about every food she eats. We tried some non-essential foods and saw a difference and went from there. We also use echinacea when she is starting a cold, which is sold in lollypop form. The other non-medicinal thing is a probiotic which was perscribed by the hospital but is simply a bacteria which will replace the good bacteria killed off by frequent antibiotics. We were told there was a study done and kids who take a probiotic get less respiratory infections than those who don't. We have seen a significant difference since she started taking them.I hope this is what you are looking for.HeatherMom to Ashley

I don't know if you consider this natural or not.....But I take Glutathione orally and I inhale a buffered solution of Glutathione twice daily. Glutathione is a natural antioxidant in our bodies.....So I figure its natural. I also do TOBI every other month, and occasionally need to do Tobra IVs.Jake

I go to a massage therapist regularrly, about twice a month. It helps with muscle soreness from coughing. I'm looking into acupuncture for muscle tension and digestive system stimulation. Debbie23 w/ CF

Hi Heather, I am having my second child in August. This child has been dx with CF. Would it be possible for me to contact you to get more information on the diet you put your daughter on and maybe any other diet/holistic related questions? Thank you. Paula Regan

Paula, I don't know that I can offer much help with the situation. I went to see a naturopath and pretty much took everything out of Ashley's diet. I called her dietician to discuss and she said we could try anything but only to remove one food at a time so we knew what made a difference. I strongly recommend discussing any changes you make with your cf team so they are aware of what is going on. If your team is as good as ours they will be very open The first thing we tried was pork and it made a difference for her. Everything I read regarding food intolerances said to remove the food for 3-6 months, if you see a difference, and then try and reintroduce it slowly. In some instances the system just needs to be flushed out and then it can tolerate it again. We noticed that she had less sinus and ear infections and her reflux stopped. I will never know if these are things she outgrew or if it really was the pork. We will, on occassion, still give her some pork but we find that she gets bad knee pain when we do.You can contact me anytime at heatherrock70@hotmail.com if you have any other questions.Heather

Hi Heather.,Thank you for both your posts regarding our situation! I will talk with the CF team in more detail here in Boston about any changes. That is always a good place to start. If I have any additional questions I will let you know!Paula
