Ran across this after someone posted a link to it on wetcanvas.com. It deals with animal cruelty, art, and there are images as well.

Here's my take on this one

This is not art in any form at all...it's purposly killing an innocent dog for no useful reason. The dog never asked to be be used like that and people can't just destroy a life, even if it's a stray dog, under the name of art.
His reasoning does not justify his methods and if he wanted to raise awareness about animal cruelty he should take a long look into a mirror. One step away from this being a person next. Here's basically what the portuguese/spanish responses on the site read.
At the bottom of that are some in english as well.

Habacuc... The artist has left a dog dying of starvation during an exhibition. The defenders of the rights of animals have already launched an online petition for the artist to be banned from the 2008 Biennial Centroamericana Honduras.

The artist Guillermo Vargas, better known as Habacuc, is giving that talk of everyone. The reason for the attention are not their works of art, but the fact that he purposely left a dog dying of starvation during their last exposure.

The "Exhibition No 1" was held in August, in Managua, Nicaragua. At the entrance, visitors could read the phrase "You're what lês", followed by an unusual scene: among the works of artist was a dog, hungry and sick, tied by a rope to a corner.
Even after a few calls from visitors for the animal to be released, the artist refused to do so justified that it was a tribute to Natividad Canda, a Nicaraguan who died after being attacked by a rotweiller.

Ironically, the dog eventually dying of starvation in full display when the title of the sample was written on a wall through a collage made based on dog food.

"The petition may be signed in

and is designed to prevent the "artist" participating in the event.

I heard about this guy. How sad that he was allowed to starve a dog for "art's" sake. I have done art my whole life and NEVER ever would I consider this art.

Yes, I did hear and see this email that came to me. I was so saddened by the thought that these freaks hide behind what is socially acceptable ( Art ), to carry on there disfuncitonal and mentally unstable forms of torture.
It reminds me of Criminals who hide behind God to justify war. Enough said.
