I was wondering how to tell the difference between CF Related Arthritis and other forms of Arthritis. What are the signs and symptoms of CF related Arthritis? How do you know it is CF Related or not?

I'm unaware of people with arthritis that are under age 40... but like anything i'm sure there are always exceptions.

If you have CF, and you're 24, bets are it's CFRD and not regular arthritis.

Here's how my doc explained CFRA to me. Our immune systems are constantly on overdrive trying to keep the bacteria levels in our lungs in check. So it can get confused and start attacking your joints, which is basically the same thing as rhuematoid arthritis.

CFRA is a lot like rheumatoid arthritis, as Jessi mentioned. Some signs of CFRA vs other things that can cause arthritis. (Medication, age, etc)

*Pain comes in spells or episodes, not a daily thing. The episodes usually last anywhere from 12 hours to one week.

* Onset is generally at a younger age, between 10 and 15

* Fever is generally associated with the episodes, and sometimes a rash.

* is relatively rare, affecting only 2-8% of adult Cf patients

* Large joints are most commonly affected, with the knees seeming to be most common, as well as ankles, wrists, hips, shoulders, and elbows. Ry got it badly in his back, though that doesn't seem to be terribly common.

I hope this helps some.

Since I don't seem to have all the symptoms, I guess I can be relieved that I haven't developed arthritis.

After coming to Japan, I've had pain in both knees, but a lot has to do with having an old injury in the right knee, and having to sit on the floor in the Japanese style for a lot of my martial arts classes. I also think being malnurished had something to do with it. Which might be a point to mention. I can't recall what it was that was lacking in nurishment, but I think Calcium was a major one, perhaps vitamin D as another.
Since the flavor of Milk in Japan is different in the States, I never aquired the taste, so I could never drink it straight.

Perhaps a lot of joint problems I have is also related to 'over stressing' them from some of the sports I've been involved with, along with old injuries.

I may eventually get a type of arthritis from all those old injuries, but right now, it doesn't seem to be a serious matter as of yet.

I have battled joint pain over 20 years. It affects the main joints. As i have gotten older, it seems to be worse around ovulation time and when i have an infection somewhere(Lungs Sinusus). I have had the rash, the spots were very sore"tender" to touch. It takes alot out of me. I have an Apt. next week with CF Doctor, I'm hoping to find more out about this.
