Artificial Lung!?

I've always wondered why, if we can develop an artificial heart, why not a lung? Lo and behold...

Still in its early stages, but it sounds promising!

so, i wonder, does it work kind of like a dialysis machine, where blood runs through it, oxygenates and passes back into the body?

also, a biomechanical lung would be awesome. if such a cybernetic lung were to be developed, there would be no question of transplant for me. cf kept me from flying an apache, but it may just pave the way for my second childhood dream of being a termminator!!

This never even occurred to me that they could do such a thing. In a worse case scenario maybe if it could not be a permanent replacement maybe it could provide a stop gap until a real match could be found. I am constantly amazed at what we can come up with. I saw something in the news today, in Japan they have a cap you can wear and control the movement of a toy train just by thinking about it.

Very cool stuff.

You know I was amazed when I saw this article and thought it was great news!

On the Scientific side...If they can do it to Darth Vador why not!

ok seriously, this is very promising, having a child that is 6 and pretty severe and knowing that he might eventually need a transplant someday this is something to think about.
