Ashton has a probable milk allergy we are going to try milk again once he is completely heled from his surgery.. he will be 1 yr old on the 23rd of october and i believe that is the time which you switch kids from formula to milk... i was just wanting ideas on what people use and where to get it.. he was diagnosed with the milk allergy at the same time that he had salmonella right after he got out of the NICU so that is why we re going to try mil gain just to make sure that it wasent the salmonella causing his pooping problems.. but anywaya any ideas would be great!! thank you in advance

Milk ideas in general? If he has troubel digesting, I'd try goat's milk, easier on the tummy. If regular milk get CFers used to WHOLE milk early for the calories.

If, if Ashton can tolerate milk, this is what we did.... DS was on formula at home until he was about a year and a half. Think preschool switched him to whole milk at lunch when he was about 14 months old. Around the time he turned a year old, he went thru a finicky eating phase and we were concerned he wasn't going to get enough calories.

When we did switch to whole milk we used Sidney's Mom's recipe for creamy milk -- I can't remember it off the top of my head -- carnation instant breakfast, 3 cups of milk and an ounce of two or cream. We've since switched him to carnation instant breakfast with whole milk and an ounce of cream for meals. When he has a snack, I give put a splash of cream in with his whole milk.

One thing I do recall when we made a gradual switch to whole milk from formula -- we dealt with about 2-4 weeks of nasty, nasty constipation problems. Rock hard, huge stools. It was absolutely dreadful. So whatever you decide to switch ashton to is going to be an adjustment.

A lot of infants can't tolerate (allergy) milk but they grow out of it quickly. By the time my older son (milk intolerance/allergy) was 1 he was able to go onto whole milk without any problems. Our Dr. told us that if he wasn't able to tolerate milk that we'd have to try goats milk or soy milk. The good news is that now soy milk is very easy to find. 12 years ago, not so much.

Just curious, what kind of milk intolerance/allergy symptoms does you son have?

Rice milk really doesn't have much nutritional value. It lacks essential fats and nutrients, although the vanilla stuff tastes great on cereal.

My son went from breast milk to pediasure at 1 yr old and is still on at 5 yrs old. He loves it and it really helps with his weight.
