The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) warned yesterday that 3 asthma drugs might increase the risk of severe asthma attacks and even death. The agency asked the manufactureres of Adavir, Serevent and Foradil to strengthen the labels to reflect this risk. The FDA said that even though the drugs decrease the frequency of asthma attacks, they can make the attacks more severe when they occur. The agency said the drugs should be prescribed only if other medicines dont help. The FDA cautioned patients not to stop taking the drugs without consulting their doctors. The agency asked the drug makers to update product labels and medication guides for patients and doctors outlining the dangers.

Yikes,
I remember when i started using advair, i read the leaflet that came with it and it did mention about serevent ( which is in advair) could cause fatal reactions. It scared he crap out of me and i didnt want to take it. I have been on it almost a year now and it made a good difference for me. I cough way less and have way less problems with tightness in my chest. I'd hate to think i am putting my health at risk. I'll mention it to my doctor and see what he says................

I did check with my clinic about all the warnings about these meds since I have been on them all at various times in the last year, and I was told that yes, it certain rare instances, the drugs (just like any) can cause death. They felt for me the risk outweighed the benefit but left it up to me as to whether I wanted to continue. Out of those three drugs included in the warning (like all of you, these are not the only ones I take), I am now only taking the floradil. I notice a definite difference when I don't take it.

I haven't read it yet, but I just went to fda.gov and put "advair" in the search engine. Here's the article:
