Aspergillus IgE

I was at my clinic this past week and the doctor did an IgE blood test. I have received the results, but I have no idea what they mean. My score was 13. I'm not currently culturing aspergillus, but he wanted to check since I had cultured it in the past. I guess it has a tendency to stick around. Does anyone know what this score actually means? They said the range is 0-100 for the IgE. From what I can tell online this is a RAST score. Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

If your IgE level was 13 it sounds like you have no allergy to aspergillus. Doctors pay attention at levels over 500. My son'sIgEhovers around 1300. He has grown aspergillus in every singe culture taken for the past five years. 13 is beautiful!
You can culture aspergillus but not have an allergy to it. In that case, it never really causes you any trouble and does not require treatment. However, if you have a history of growing it I think it's wise that your doctor checks your IgE from time to time, as it is possible for the allergy to develop. But as long as there is no allergy, there really is no problem.
The RAST test is one I know about, but not alot about. I'm sure others will chime in on that!
Good luck!

But she said she had an IgE blood test. How is this different from RAST, Jonathan? I'm very curious now and will google it!..and so sorry if I assumed your 13 was our IgE level. I guess I read it incorrectly!

When investigating for ABPA one of the things they check for is how sensitive you are to aspergillus. This can be a skin prick or a RAST (Radioallergosorbent test). I have a class 3 sensitivity at 7.01KU/L, she would be a class 4. the other things they look for are whether or not you are culturing aspergillus your serum IgE and perhaps IgG, aspergillus antibodies and clinical presentation.

So having a high sensitivity to Aspergillus isn't a problem unless I'm culturing it, right?
