asthma?

My 3 yr old daughter has had a dry, persistent cough for about a month now. Her doctor tried Augmenten just to see if it was an infection but it didn't help. Xrays and a throat culture were done and they were fine. Her doctor now thinks it might be asthma and has put her on prednisone for 5 days to see if this helps.

Does this sound right? Wouldn't asthma have other symptoms? Has any other children been on prednisone? What are the side effects?

My mom said that when I was on it the first time I was 2 and I gained alot of weight. She had to buy me a new wardrobe for the summer. I was on it for three months though. I was also perscribed this for athsma. Beth
