Hello everyone, Holly had a well child today to check on her after getting her flu shot. my pcp told me that she thinks that Holly has Asthma, prior to finding out about CF we were already dx with Asthma but when the genetics came back I thought that ruled out asthma once we got the positive for CF-well my pcp told me that Holly is weazing really bad & that doesn't come with CF.

is this true? can you have both? is this why my pcp tells me she sounds crackly in her lungs? the clinic says that she is crackly sometimes also but they haven't mentioned asthma since the dx of CF. they said that they would call the clinic & let them know & the clinic called me & left a message yesturday but it was too late for me to call them back-so pls help if you can-i didn't know if this was possible.

Unfortunately, it is possible. My daughter had the exact same scenerio - it was asthma dx before CF. After she was dx'd with CF, I thought the asthma thing was bogus, so I basically stopped giving her flovent. My dad has asthma pretty bad, and I've seen his asthma attacks growing up, and I thought, "She doesn't have anything remotely close to my dad's symptoms" but I always noticed she would cough all night when she had a cold, or got sick. I took her to the doctor and they started asking about her flovent dosage - I felt so stupid! Her asthma mainly shows itself when she's sick - it's just a tight non-productive cough. Now that the weather is getting colder, I can tell that when she walks from a warm house outside to the cold air, it can take her breath away for a few seconds and she'll cough a little bit. They did allergy testing on her to find out what she's allergic to, and what sets her off, so maybe that would be something they can do for you. They currently have my daughter on asthmanex, which seems to work great!

They can absolutely have both. My son does. He is on Asmanex twice daily. It makes a huge difference in his breathing/wheezing. Asthma will cause problems in the bronchial tubes (airways). It makes them swell, and that's where most of the wheezing comes from. Here's an article that may explain it better than I can.
