For those of you who have had tx.....did you find that you had to adjust your bra size to accomodate the size of your chest cavity? I would think that if you have healthier lungs with less air trapping etc & all the swelling & trauma have calmed down after surgery that your chest cavity would shrink. Am I being disillusioned?

Hey there,

Well I will say I have NOT adjusted my bra size though I probably should. I was a 34 beforehand and don't really feel I need a 32 - but the cup size should be smaller probably for now - I lost about 12 lbs in the weeks right after transplant and lucky me I alot of it where I normally lose my weight first ... my chest lol.

Seriously though I am still the same size the only thing that has changed is the type of bras that are comfortable for me. I wore alot of strapless bras beforehand and now I find that the racerback bras are more comfortable for me - at least for now since my incisions are on my back (I did NOT have the clamshell like many Transplant patients - I had what is called a thoracotomy incision).

Well in any news - no the size has not changed yet. I have refrained from buying much in the way of new bras cause I want to wait and see how I heal and what feels best once I do heal - that way I am not wasting a bunch of money on bras that won't be "right" in a few months.

Sports bras were the best and are still the most comfortable - I got several from the nike outlet before transplant and they turned out to be a Godsend because they are not really binding and are softer than the typical underwire bra.

Well I know that was more than what you asked but I figured I would share - cause oddly enough Kurt asked me why I chose to wear the bra I wore today. I spent about 30 minutes searching for one of like 2 racerback bras I have because it was just more comfortable than the others. His response "why is that one so special?" So yeah lol.

Take Care,
Lindsey

The only problem I have found post transplant with regards to Bra's is I can't wear any with the underwire. It could be due to the fact I have pretty bad keloid scarring on one side, but I can't stand the pressure of the wire sitting right on the scar. Admittedly I am not that big in that department so I basically wear sports top etc. It's hard because I can't wear bra's that are feminine but on the good side I've never been a girly girl...

I still find times when my scar is irritated/ itchy and sore, and I have one particular bra that has a wide bottom part which helps put a positive pressure on the scar which aids in these times...

As for size, I have'nt gone up the size around, but can now fill in a cup where before at 35kgs I didn't have anything to fill out LOL....

With me I was happy of the results.
I was slightly round shouldered before, nothing dramatic, but my boobs were tiny.

I now am larger in the boobs.... it is okay, but the hassle is when I go running, or walking - they sweat.

So my bra size increased. If it is uncomfortable to wear a bra at first after tx, go bralass, and then try a sports bra. I agree, underwire makes me nuts. The wire is right on the scar and can be irratating. I am almost 10 years post.

You never know what the results to your boobs will be post tx.
