Do you know what she tends to culture? For my daughter, who cultures staph, the augmentin doesn't work anymore. We've switched to bactrim and have better results. You may need to switch antibiotics. I'd definitely call the CF center and see what they think.

My daughter has a baseline of no cough, so I was told any cough needs to be reported if it lasts more than a few days.

Good luck, I hope they can figure this out for you and get her on the right meds.

Augmentin will not help with PA, if that's what she cultures.

Definitely be proactive by talking to the docs about getting another antibiotic. Prolonged infections can lead to permanent lung damage...

I agree, sounds like they need to do a culture to determine what she's growing. DS was put on augmentin when he had ear infections, but when he developed a cough, he was put on Cipro. He's cultured nonmucoid pseudo in the past, but also Stenotrophomonas Maltophilia and was put on septra for that -- culture reports showed that it was resistant to ceftez (sp).

When DS was put on cipro he was already on zithromax, keflex and tobi -- so I wondered how the heck he could be coughing and sick when he was practically glowing from his meds -- turns out he needed the correct antibiotic to knock down the infection.
