I just started on 500mg, M W F and it hurts my stomach. Stomach pain and gas. Does anyone else have this and does it get better as you stay on it? Also, does anyone get yeast infections from it? I am taking acidopholus pills and eating yogurt everyday.

Tips, ideas, thoughts welcomed!

I don't have cf, but whenever I'm put on the z-pack that first day where you have to take two 250 mg tablets, I have gotten awful stomach pains. Just a constant pain, not a spasm.

We had issues this summer with DS vomiting on the days he took his 250 mg. We figured he got too warm, needed more salt and the zithromax didn't help matters. As per a few people here, we started giving him his zithromax before bed and so far... Knock on wood -- he hasn't vomited since. I do seem to recall when he switched to pills his doctor did mention something about AIDS patients being on such a high dosage that they have stomach issues.

I dont usually have a problem with Azithromycin and I'm on it MWF also. Never had yeast infections from it either. I only get those when I add other antibiotics to the mix.
The only problem I've had with Azithromycin is when we add Levaquin- it made me very nausious and I had to go off the Azithrmycin while I was on the Levaquin.

Well it should be common knowledge that any antibiotic will give you problems in some regard. I remember I used to get a bad yeast infection in a specific area every 3 or so months. Needless to say I went to my family doctor and she said it was herpes. I was then referred to a urologist and he told me it probably is the result of taking antibiotics combined with fluctuating blood sugar levels. I've tried a few topical creams to solvent this, but I found 1 that worked wonders. I forget the name of it, but I think it is intended for female yeast infections.

Anyway, I have been free of any antibiotics since I was releases from the hospital and no yeast infections. When I used to take Zithromax I never had stomach pains from it, but it did help my excess gas problem somewhat. But the moral is if you must take any antibiotic, be sure to supplement it with a probiotic of some sort.
