How many of you carry B. cepacia? Do you agree with the following statement from the CFF website? Also, how many of you participate in gatherings with other CF individuals? Am I wrong for opting not to take my daughter to these functions out of fear that she'll acquire something?

"Medical evidence shows that most individuals infected with B. cepacia acquired the bacteria from casual contact with others who were infected. This transmission took place in social settings, such as educational programs, exercise facilities as well as hospitals, although, in some cases, it was not detected for up to two years later. In other cases, it is not always known how someone with CF acquired the infection."

I think that is an accurate statement. I also understand your concern about attending events. I like the walk as an option for people. It is out in the open. Not a lot of handshaking that goes on....I use a lot of purrell. I like the benfits of meeting others. If you are tenative about attending with your daughter, I know there are moms who go alone to meet others. That may be an option. We all have to live and enjoy life and bugs are everywhere. I am not sure what percentage of CFers have B.Ceapcia...maybe someone else does. I am hoping that in the very near future B. Cepacia will not be as intimidating to CFers as it is now.

I have B. cepacia and have had it for more than 10 years. I do not believe I acquired it from another CFer. I grew up on a dairy and always loved to play in the dirt. I used to spend a lot of time in the great outdoors and was never around any other CFers, so it's far more likely that I got cepacia from the environment.

Having B. cepacia is a curse and I hate it. I hate that I can't attend CF events. The feeling of rejection is like showing up at your best friend's door and being told to go home because they don't want to play with you.

Trent has B.Ceapcia and he is pretty certain he got it from the CF camp he went to when he was younger. He says that was before they really started seperating the patients. Up until camp that year he never had it.

We don't attend CF events mostly because there aren't any where we are. I'm pretty sure that if there were some I would be attending alone anyway because he tends to ignore the situation.
