Baby girl and boy names?

My sister is pregnant for the first time, and I wanted to start a thread about names. The other topics on names made me think of it.

They want to wait to find out the sex of the baby until it's born, so they're coming up with both types of names now.

What are your favorite girl and boy names? She's thinking of Brook for a girl so far. I don't really have any.

Thanks!

I have always liked the boys name Bryce, but my hubby wouldn't let me name our son that because he said he would get beat up with a name like that.

For a girls name I like my sister's name, Shai (pronounced Shay). Shai is the irish spelling.

Cassandra, always reminds me of the MSN butterfly commercial where they're discussing baby names and say cassandra and then the butterfly 'tsks' and says that Cassandra means 'the prophet of doom' or something like that.

I'm particular to Aurora, Genevieve/Guinevere (Gwen), and Kaylee for girls.
Dylan, Aidan, Liam, or Declan for boys.

I never really thought of too many names for boys, but thought of girls names when I was naming my computers!!! (Yes, I name my computers after girls, just like some of us guys name our cars after girls!!)

Boys:
Mike
Alan
Bob (or Robert)
John
Clint
Dave (or David)
maybe even David Thomas, after a favorite uncle who unexpectedly passed away.

I just won't name one "Johnson"! (LOL!)

Girls:
Erica
Eriko
Linda (or Lynda)
Mary Jo
Rosa

That's just a few from the top of my head, but I haven't even consulted with the wife if we actually have any!!

we have always liked Hebrew names for girls Rebecca, Sarah, Elizabeth were our favs.
For boys my wife liked more traditional names such as Andrew, James even Craig
You could go for Jasper, which is my personal favourite ( also from the bible ) funny that because neither of us are that religious.

i too like bible names and traditional names. i would never change the traditional spelling of a well known name, it would just drive the child mad when nobody ever spells it the "right " way my fav's are for boys, joe , sam , adam, joshua, and for girls sarah, emma , amy , joanna. just "normal" names

We also like biblical names and eventually picked Joshua David and Jesse Michael. My Italian mother-in-law was horrified because she said they were "Jewish" names LOL. We didn't want a Luigi or Mario. We liked Jillian or Caroline for a girl.

As a teacher, I have to advise people about spelling common names in a different way to be unique. In the past few years I have had up to FOUR Kaitlyn's in my class at the same time. They are all spelled differently and the kids get really mad when we forget which kid has which spelling. Hmmm are you Caitlin, Kaytlyn, Katelyn, Katelin, Katelynne, Caytlin, Kate-Lynne, Caetlin or Caitlen? The same with Brianna.

Allie, Mark's cousin named his son Asher.... biblical? I thought it was such a unique name, but it fits him so well.

We've been trying to think of names for when we finally get pregnant.
For a few years now I've known I wanted a boy named Katin Connor, but for girls we don't quite know. We like Reese and Roslyn, though. I like Olivia, but with my husbands name Olmo and our dogs name Oscar, it kind of ruined it for me!!

Jane,

I COMPLETELY understand the "strange spelling" of names.

I have dealt with that my whole life. I am not sure if most realize that Seana is pronounced Shawna.

I am normally called sea-anna, or sheena. Although I have to say it is useful when answering the telephone. If someone asks for sea-anna I say "nope, she is not in." I figure if you do not know how to say my name I don't have any need to talk to you......lol

Both my name and my sister Shai's name are the irish spelling.

I also have been at the end of unique name spelling. Even though my name is spelled Danyell, it is pronounced the way it looks...Dan-yell. You would be surprised how many people screw it up. I've been called Darrell, Darnell, Daniel, ect...its kinda funny. People take something so simple and make it hard. No one ever spells it right. Its usually Danielle, Danyelle or Dainaile (thats the worse I've seen)...among many others.

As far as baby names....

Girl : Bayleigh (same as Baylee), Hailey, Danica
Boy : Riley, Landon (my hubby said no on both), he likes Stryker (i dont)
