Behavior issues with meds

Good morning,

I have had quite a weekend and wanted to post a question.
As many of you responded, I posted a question last Wednesday evening about Andrew spiking a fever/headache/weakness, with his picc line. We had labs drawn and the doctor thinks it was a 24 hour virus of some sort...the syptoms were gone by midday on Thanksgiving. His picc had no problems, other than continuing to be sluggish.

However, starting Thursday my son became a monster. Nothing was making him happy, he was sassy and disrespectful to everyone in the house, and threw a couple of actual temper tantrums. (at age 9!).

This behavior calmed a bit by the evening of Thanksgiving, but has returned on and off since then. I have never been so happy to drop him off at school, but am very nervous about his behavior in class today.

Has anyone ever noticed a behavior change on Timentin or Gentamycin? I have noticed that Andrew gets "testy" whenever he is on bactrim, but nothing like his behavior since Thursday. And...he's been on the meds since the 6th. Why would he just now be responding this way?

Anyway, I'm just trying to figure out if this could be medication related so I know if I should be a little more understanding. I still don't plan to put up with the behavior, but understanding it makes it a little less frustrating..(end is in sight, kind of thing.)

Thanks!

Tonya,

Is Andrew on a steroid, like prednisone? Maggie was off the wall when she had to take it. Not sure about the antibiotics/behavior.

I am sorry things are so rough. I am not familiar with those meds, but I know some meds cause havic.

Not to mention that you just feel cruddy which makes you freaking irritable.

I hope it all works out soon. You are right not to let him get away with certain things. I do that with Jazz. I explain I understand, BUT blah blah blah

Tonya,

Blood sugar is a huge trigger for Sean and his "tantrums". Maybe the antibiotics are playing with his blood sugar and that's why he's acting up? Just a thought.
