being bummed

hey all...

so I was on my way to my fiancee's house today and I always pass a city park that has a pool in it. I looked in and noticed that the pool was filled (summer is finally here). however, once I looked at a full pool and started thinking about summers in the past when I practically LIVED at the pool, I nearly started coughing up a lung just imagining swimming again. this really bummed me out. I used to LOVE swimming and now my PFT's are so low and my asthma is so sensitive to allergies, that I don't think I ever could again. this really makes me wish I at least had the lung capacity I had 6 years ago, let alone just a plain old normal, healthy set of lungs. now I'm really discouraged to even try to ride my bike or anything right now.

*sigh*

any words of encouragement?

Sorry Sweety!

I dont have any real words of encouragement, but please know that you are alone. Memories are the only thing I have for many activities I can no longer do <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

I don't think it's impossible to get back some of what you have lost. I did. I was bedridden about 8 1/2 years ago. Now I am well enough to work a full time job. If I could have a birthday wish this week it would be that you figure out how to get healthier too.

Sorry you are having a downer.

The worst thing you can do is get discouraged to the point that you don't do anything. Start with baby steps, but get out there and get moving. Even if it's just walking for 50 feet, it's better than doing nothing. Lung function CAN improve. I'm in constant contact with CFers everyday who see there PFT's improving through exercise. The key is starting it and making it a habit. Yes, it will hurt. But guess what, it hurts for everybody, CF or not. You have CF, don't let CF have you.
