Birth Control Pill Problems

I also posted this in the Pregnancy Section because I wasn't to sure where it should go.

I really need some advice because I'm nearly ready to pull my hair out.

As many of you know, I started the pill 2.5 months ago because I figured why should I deal with my heavy, painful periods if I wasn't going to get pregnant anyway...My periods lasted 8 days but were pretty heavy. However, my cycles were very predictable - every 30 days.

Well, the first month on the pill, Levora, I had mid-cycle spotting. This was no big deal to me...I kind of expected it since I was restarting the pill after 3 years off...The first period on the pill was every bit as bad as if I weren't even taking it...I thought to myself that I'd just wait and see...Plus, I was restarting the same pill (Levora) that I was on before for 8 years!

Well, the second complete month on the pill was so much worse...I started bleeding from Day 5 until about 4 days BEFORE the 'dummy pills'. I'm not just talking spotting either. My bleeding ranged anywhere from spotting to actually needing a thick pad!!! Then, I got an actual period when I took the week's worth of 'dummy pills'. I was bleeding WAYYYY MORE than I wasn't that month. I called my GYN doctor and explained everything. He basically told me to hang in there for another month. "You are experiencing breakthough bleeding". He told me to sit tight until September 11th which is when I go for my annual Pap and pelvic...The period I got from that cycle was lighter but lasted the full 7 days...

Now I'm in on Day 7 of the third pack and COMPLETLY MISERABLE...I'm just about ready to say, "The heck with this *hit!!!" On Day 3, I realized I had a MASSIVE YEAST INFECTION. I'm not even through with treating that, and now (Day 7) I'm bleeding to the point of needing a thicker pad...This is BS!!! I can't wear nice underwear or do much because I start bleeding out of the blue. I can't predict a thing!!! Jake and I haven't even done anything in about 2 weeks because everytime I turn around something is WRONG!!! For those of you that remember, I managed to pass him a yeast infection before so I have to watch for BOTH of us...

I feel like I went on the pill to have lighter/less painful periods yet I got a whole slough (sp?) of other problems. Was it even worth it?????????? This sucks so bad!!!

I have no intention of getting pregnant now with the fost/adopt stuff in full swing!!! However, maybe we could just use condoms or something during that 1-week time frame. I JUST CAN'T STAND BLEEDING 20 OUT OF 28 DAYS EACH MONTH!!! NOW A MASSIVE YEAST INFECTION TOO!!!

My other thought is this...I believe Levora is a VERY MILD DOSE OF HORMONES. If the dose were increased, the bleeding may stop; however; I would probably get more and far worse yeast infections, right? Does/ Can anyone clarify that for me???

I'm thinking of calling my doctor Tuesday to get this taken care of instead of waiting until September 11th. I was slow to tell Jake about all the problems; however, he found out on his own. I didn't want him to think I was 'jumping back on the baby bandwagon'; however, he sees the pads and now the Monistat...Yesterday, I was so TIRED, and I didn't know why. I woke from a 1.5 hour nap to start bleeding out of nowhere which who knows when that will end...

Edited to Add: I did call my doctor about starting Advair, thanks to all your suggestions. He put a 30-day supply in the mail so I should get it very soon! Thank you, everyone, for your help. I go back the end of September so we'll see!!! Fingers crossed!!!

What about like the depo shot or something like that? I was on the pill when I was a little bit younger to try to control my periods and it only made them worse...like yours. There weren't all of these fancy other things out though so I didn't have a choice to try something else. I just stopped them all together and just dealt with the way they were before. Mine were not regular like your were though. They would come whenver they wanted to and it was horrible!!

Now that I have had the transplants, my cycle is 25 days on the spot and VERY heavy! I hate that they are so heavy but I guess I would rather deal with this than not knowing when they were coming.

I would say do some research on the Internet and see what ones claim to really lighten the period overall. Ask your doc too of course!

Wow, I hate to hear everything you've had to go thru! Geesh, you might need a transfusion from losing all that blood!

I take Yaz, a low hormone pill (the lowest hormone available...I think). I have 3 day periods, no cramps, and it helps with pms mood swings, etc.

EXCEPT... I too get yeast infections on this pill. I figured out, the days I miss, I just double up the next day and THAT causes my infection!! Don't double up if you miss.

I would call your OB and see if he/she can't just switch you to a different pill. There is no way you should be bleeding THAT much, you cannot live like that. I personally wouldn't take the shot because I don't want anything I can't discontinue (due to drug allergies), so I wouldn't do that but geesh...you have to do SOMETHING different.

Call and get the dr's opinion and they can also call in an ABX for your yeast infection. You don't need to be seen by the dr, I already asked my OB that question when I called him about my recurring yeast infections.

Good luck, I hope you get relief!!!
