Bloating

A week or so ago I mentioned my problem with bloating after I eat and how SOB I get. Many of you said you had the same problem.

Well, yesterday I took 2 Creon 20 and then was interrrupted about 30-40 min. before I could eat. I was feeling very bloated already when I realized I hadn't eaten yet, I'd only taken the enzymes. So I googled Creon and looked at side effects and "bloating" was listed as a possible side effect. I decided to do a little experiment and not take anymore Creon before eating. I've had 4 meals w/o it and a few snacks...and no bloating! aha!! No more Creon for me and I'll discuss it with my CF dr on Wed. I'm not pancreatic insufficient and struggling to put on weight, so it's not the end of the world for me to skip it for a few days. I'm having just enough of a problem with my pancreas that they wanted me using it.

Some of you that are having the bloating, it may be your enzymes!

I agree that this is VERY possible for many of us. Too many enzymes or if the strength of the enzyme is too strong, anything can happen. Bloating sounds like one of the milder culprits.

I did well for a while on pancrecarb. I have not taken this enzymes in years because I found a better one for me.

I also had Big problems with Creon. I think it was cramping. This is going back twenty years ago so I cannot say for certain. I tried it twice and since the symptom that I had was not happening to me any other time, I decided Creon was not good for me.

I am glad that you are a good detective.

I never took that brand. I use a different brain of enzymes.

I am still convinced my bloating was just from eating way too much food period. I wasn't listening to my "I'm full" feeling and just kept stuffing myself on Thanksgiving Day and the day following. Plus I ate some soy-protein foods those days and I am not used to doing that.

I agree, I think the enzymes contribute to bloating. Everyone suspects malnutrition for the "CF belly", but I wasn't diagnosed until I was 29 and of course wasn't taking enzymes before then. Before dx I was skinny, but had a washboard stomach. When I started taking enzymes and gaining weight it went straight to my stomach, so then I had skinny arms and a fat belly.
I'm working out quite a bit lately and have managed to move the weight around some, but I am still basically skinny with a pot belly, no matter how many crunches I do or how much time I spend on the treadmill. I don't think I'm interested in taking fewer enzymes because I don't want to lose any weight, but I wonder if there is anything else I can do to lessen the bloating.
