Denufosol is a nebulized treatment that is currently 2nd-3rd stage trails. It opens up an alternative channel in the cells that allows for the exchange of sodium on the surface of the lung which makes it easier to clear the mucus. Bronchitol is a powder that is inhaled that helps to bring water to the surface of the lungs which helps in the clearing of the mucus. Both of these are still in testing stages. These are not being offered at all clinics, but at specific testing sites. We have been very lucky that my sons doctor is is big into being involved in these trials.
