well, i'm in the hosptial with my son, and he is on tobramycin and fortaz. Last time he got c.diff so this time i asked for florastor (a probiotic) before we started ivs. Despite me trying to be preventative he ended up with it again!

does this happen every single time you get admitted? or is this just my baby?

Here's the problem - it might not be coming from your kid.

C Diff can readily be transmitted while in the hospital - and the bacteria is NOT killed by those alcohol cremes. Yup, you read it right - if your nurses or you or anyone you come in contact with is not washing their hands with soap instead of alcohol, your kid could be exposed to C. Diff.

So while I'm not 100% sure if not the kid, the possibility of transmitting the bacteria from other patients is always a possibility.

I'm so sorry you're going through this - sounds like a nightmare. Take care.

Emily went round and round with c.diff for a while. Then, I put her on a daily, over the counter probiotic. (Florajen 3). When she was old enough, I also pushed yougurts in various forms. The kid's yogurts is what she likes best and it isn't hight in probiotic value, but its better than nothing. And, once Florajen became part of her routine, she's never had c.diff again. (Knock on wood. We just started Bactim tonight. Hope I didnt' jinx myself!)

Hi, so sorry your kiddo has c-diff...it is horrible, I know. Since we started using Culturelle, Zoe hasn't had c-diff again. We do 2 capsules a day while on antibiotics, 1 a day when not. The brand, etc.....seems to make a difference. We tried some other ones.....but she got c-diff and yeast infections. Culturelle works wonderfully.

Hope things get better...huggss to you allllll....

The brand, etc.....seems to make a difference. We tried some other ones.....but she got c-diff and yeast infections. Culturelle works wonderfully.
