c-difficile

My daughter just cultured c-diff (stool culture). They collected the culture while she was in the hospital for IV fluids for dehydration due to vomiting.

She has been on oral antibiotics on and off for about three months. However, she doesn't have diarrhea at the present time.

Has anyone experienced c-diff? Did you receive treatment even if you did not have diarrhea? What med did you get treated with? Is it easy to get rid of?

My main concern: If she has reflux and has aspirated before, can she aspirate the c-diff (gastro bug) into her lungs????? OR is that just crazy thinking?!?!?

She is having some major coughing due to asthma and I worry about aspiration, especially now that I know about the c-diff.

Thanks for the reply Karen. Maybe I should have posted this in the adults section where they have probably had more long term antibiotic exposure. The med we received is called Flagyll (sp?) and is in a pill form.

Unfortunately, it reacts badly with alcohol. No, no . . . my three year old doesn't have a drinking problem (ha!) but some of her meds apparently contain small amounts of alcohol - Orapred and Zantac. So we have to figure out how we will do this.

Thank you again,

Maria
