Hi Ladies,

Okay, this was kind of in the works for the past month, but I really didn't know if it was going to be a go until this past Saturday.

Jake works with a girl who is married, working full-time, and trying to finish school. She and her husband were died set against day care for their son and remembered that I don't work. So they asked Jake if I would be interested in watching him. We set a date Saturday night for dinner and to go over things.

Their son is so cute. He is a really happy and easy-going baby. I was holding him half the night. Not once was he fussy. Anyway, I felt/feel very comfortable with everything. It kind of funny because her husband is also an immigrant like my husband. And her husband and I share the EXACT same birthdate, month - day - year. I was like OMG!!!

Anyway, I will be watching him 2 days a week for 6 months. The times are 8:30 - 2:30. So now I ask...What do you do to keep your baby busy while you are trying to do your treatments??? Like I said, he is 7-months-old. She is going to bring lots of toys that can remain at my home, but he is starting to stand by pulling himself up while grabbing a coffee table or something. He isn't walking yet, but he is busy. I was thinking of waking up 1 hour earlier to get my morning treatments done prior to his arrival but thought that maybe this is a good chance to really absorb what it would be like if it was for real. This is like a good crash course on how to manage my mornings with CF and an infant, and it's only 2 days a week. I hope that came out right...

Anyway, any suggestions??? <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

I do my Albuterol (10 min.), Hypertonic Saline (15 min.), Vest (20 minutes), and Pulmozyme (10 minutes), if that helps???

If you decide to do your treatments after baby arrives for the day, it's fairly easy to keep an infant/toddler entertained at that age while you're strapped down. A lot of times I would put the twins in bouncy seats on my bed and they'd watch me/watch the toys on their bouncy chairs. If you have the right equipment, like baby gates to keep baby safe while cruising, it should be easy to even let him out of your site, or let him crawl around your room while you're busy.

Another thing to think about is his nap schedule. When mine were that age they had 3 naps a day, the first one was about 2 hours after they woke. They woke around 7am and were back down for nap at 9am. Are you going to have a pak n play for him? where will he sleep? You might be able to schedule your morning treatments during his nap.

If it were me, I'd have my treatments done by 8:30 for the first week, so you can get an idea of what his schedule is.

Good luck and have fun!

We have jumperoo and excersaucers for our kids (<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2508003)">http://www.toysrus.com/product...jsp?productId=2508003)</a> or (<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2267003)">http://www.toysrus.com/product...jsp?productId=2267003)</a>
and Mark turns on cartoons or a baby einstein video while he does his nebs and vest. The kids love the little opportunity they get to watch TV (it's the only time we allow it) and they love to jump up and down and play with all the stuff. Our's were purchased new as gifts, but had I needed to buy them myself I would have gone to garage sales. You can find them pretty cheap, like $15 or so.

Have fun watching the little guy...it's a fun age! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Definitely get up early and do your treatments before you watch him - at least for the first few weeks. He will be in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar person and I don't think doing your treatment with him there at that point will work very well. And keep in mind that he may never accept you doing a treatment in front of him - he has never seen it done before and wasn't witnessing it from the moment of birth (unlike the rest of our babies.) And you won't have anyone else there to distract him.

As for keeping them entertained - I agree that a jumperoo or exercauser will work great - especially the exercauser since it has multiple activities. Or even a box of different toys on the floor. Logan and his cousin have always LOVED a box of small toys (not chokeable size). Lots of things to feel and explore. Go to your local consignment store (we have a specific maternity/baby store here as well) and see what they have for sale if you want a different assortment. Also your local craigslist. I know you said she's bringing over toys but babies/toddlers really love different things - so if those are toys he is already familiar with playing with then they won't hold his attention very long.

Good luck and I'm sure you will do just fine.
