Can you suggest an air purifier?

My bedroom air purifier needs replaced. I had a Bionaire that I feel did a good job. I would replace it with a Bionaire but all of their models are whisper quiet (so they say) now and I like a good, loud white noise to flush out background noise.

Can you make a suggestion? Maybe you've done a whole lot of research, received a personal referrel or have had a good experience with one of them.

Thanks!

Make sure it has a Hepa filter, that's all I can suggest.

There was a thread earlier about Ionic air purifiers.. also just recently there was an air purifier thread.
Here's a link to the ionic air purifiers thread.

I love the Oreck system. I have two in my bedroom because my husband is a loud snorer and it kind of equals out the sound so I can get to sleep.

We have a whirlpool whispersure -- kinda spendy, as are the filters -- once a year replacing the HEPA filter is about $99 and every quarter replacing the charcoal prefilters -- come in a pack of 3 or 4 and are about $40-50? Spendy -- it was a gift from a family member after DS was born. We have it in his room and it really seems to make his room smell fresher. Could just be my imagination, too. L

HEPA is the only way to go.

I stick to Honeywell, but there's nothing special about that brand.

I'm going to get this one <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11096642&whse=&topnav=&browse=&s=1">http://www.costco.com/Browse/P...e=&topnav=&browse=&s=1</a> because my other one is pretty loud.

On Qvc I got a deal on two oreck systems. They are hepa filtration and you just wash out the cartridge when you hear a noise. I have my husband clean it so i do not go near the filter. I love the sound it makes. I also have the honeywell envirocare model and it is very expensive to keep buying new filters so in the long run the oreck is much better cost wise in IMHO.

A lady I work with got two Huntington? brand hepa systems from QVC. I think you can get the filters from your neighborhood home improvement store. If the Whispersure hadn't been a gift, there's NO way I would've considered purchasing it -- I think they run about $400. L

SAM'S had two in a box and I think they were Hunters; the cost was
about $150. The filters are so high for all of them that we just by
new machines at SAMS. They use to have 3 packs. I put one in my
room and one in Josh's and they really seem to help.

Ditto to the HEPA thing -- we have a big one -- does the whole house, but we put it in my daughters room and run it all the time. I cannot remember the brand name of the unit we have. They are spendy -- around $500 and replacement filters are about half that! My daughter says it makes a difference for her so it has been worth it.

Also my husband did a bunch of research before we purchased and he said the American Lung Association recommends the HEPA and whatever you do -- <b>do not </b>get on ionic kind - they are bad for your lungs.

This is what I use:

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_6/601-9177392-8968923?%5Fencoding=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000BWYJ2W">http://www.target.com/gp/detai...owse=1&asin=B000BWYJ2W</a>

It works very nice - Cool air comes out the top, so it's nice for that extra breeze factor in my stuffy apartment. There are alot of filters to replace though. I might have to look into a newer one like Amy's where the HEPA filter doesn't have to be replaced.

Ok, so I have been doing some research on HEPA filters and ALOT of
them are HEPA and Ionizer air purifiers built in one. So, do ALL
ionizing air purifiers give off ozone???

I was diagnosed with chemical sensitivity before CF - the doctor recommended ONLY Austin Air filters:

</a>I use them at home and at work.

I'd say if you have had good success with the Bionaire, you could
just buy a CD of pure white noise and put it on loop.  One of
my friend's moms actually has for years left a radio on a band that
is just static at low volume... You might also be able to hunt
around and think of some other device which makes the white noise
you're looking for.
