can't stand my barrel chest

Lifting weights helps a lot. If you build up your chest (im assuming you are male), it helps to even it out more, and your barrel chest won't be as noticeable.

Hey all,

I can't stand my barrel chestedness. I have these teeny legs and arms, and this huge ribcage! When I try on dresses, I grab an 8 so I can zip it up, but it's huge over my hips and butt. I have to get everything altered. I'm so sick of it. And then in bathing suits, I look slim, but then I have this huge midsection. I'm sure the Gastro component contributes to that.
I've gone hard core fitness. I can do 500 situps a day, but it doesn't make a difference in this stomach.
Has anyone ever heard of anything you can do to help with this? (I'm not talking plastic surgery, just so you know.)

By the way..I'm not male.
I also have a 34DD cup. Yeah, sounds great, but with this barrel chest, I'm all out of proportion. My husband says it's just my imagination, and I look fine, but I don't feel that way.

My chest is my biggest overall dislike also. I am a male, and if I wear a t-shirt I hear, hey lay off the beer, or are you pregnant. School was a nightmare. I finally got to when people would say are you pregnant I would answer by saying yes, and I am going to be rich because I am the first man ever to have a baby, dumb putz. Why are people so ignorant?
Back to the point. I have totally done away with anything in my closet except hooded sweatshirts. The hood, kinda does something to make everything not so big looking. Plus I also keep my hands tucked in the front pocket which also takes away the barrel look.

Hmm. Funny that I've never even thought of barrel chests. I don't have one, so I guess that's why barrel chests are a new concept to me.

I am not terribly barrel chested either. It happens more when I am really congested & if I dont make an effort to keep my shoulders back. The shoulders I think is just appearance, but I notice a difference!

My mom gave me the explanation once, my grandfather had somewhat a barrelled chest, and of course, he didn't have CF.
I guess I was fortunate to be "endowed" with a little bit of muscle build, to set off the barrelled chest, though I didn't have enough in the shoulders and arms to really balance myself. However, until I learned to walk with a straight back, the barrelled chest was more noticable.
My new wife, and sometimes guys in my club for Iaido tend to notice a larger chest when I'm changing, but only recently had I been hassled about my mid-section!
I can force my belly out, and look like I'm about 8 months due! (sorta like what EB24 was indicating!) But that sometimes happens unintentional when I'm bloated, too!
