can't take the poop!

Anybody have any ideas? Maggie had been doing great on zenpep. everyday, 9am, solid sinking poop. this was the case for about 6 months. then in october or november it stopped and turned to that horrible fluffy, orange, shiny mess. so we increased her enzyme dose. but nothing changed. so we did a fecal fat test because I guess the clinic didn't really believe me with how bad it was getting - up to 6 messy poops a day with it coming down her pant legs. That test came back with a high amount of fat (35) so they switched her to pancreaze which has 500 more units of lipase than the zenpep she was on, but less of the other two (can't remember what they are called right now). it has been a week and her poop has been sometimes a clump, sometimes a complete mess. sometimes it sinks, sometimes it floats but most of the time I can't even get it to fall out of the diaper it's so gross. but it is always shiny. I cut out chocolate yesterday because she had a lot from valentine's day and a lot in general lately between katie's baptism, maggie's bday and other events - but that didn't help. we ran her diet by the nutritionist but she doesn't see anything that she thinks would cause the problem.
please help. it seems like her clothes are getting lose on her!

can't you take her for an additional enzyme test - the new enzynmes are not working I guess ... and maybe get an usg of her tummy. Wish I could help you more...

Ugh! The poop issue. Drove me nuts because DS would eat the same amounts, same stuff every day, but his stools were pretty much like you described. And if we'd try increasing, then he'd get constipated.

Are you able to increase the enzymes by capsule or half a capsule or is she at her maximum? Is she on an acid reducer like zantac which could help the enzymes work better.

Does she have any other symptoms such as decreased feedings, gas or stomach upset?

Has she been on antibiotics recently? That can always mess up digestion.

An acid blocker is also a good idea; it help the enzymes work better.

Also, Culturelle, the probiotic can help with digestion.

My daughter has always needed the max dose on her enzymes and she had been switched to Pancreacarb which worked wonders for her but is unfortunately been pulled off the market and awaiting FDA approval.

No decrease in eating, no gas and not complaining of stomach pain. She takes prevacid and culturelle, and I think she is at the max for enzyme dose because she usually is but I will double check that. She was on antibiotics a few weeks ago - and her poop got even worse then.
And pancreacarb worked great for her too. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

Nancy,

Another thought I had was does your daughter swallow the enzyme capsules whole or do you open them up? If she is able to swallow pills; it's so much better to swallow them whole. When you open them up, you lose some of the beads and they break down quicker than when they are in capsules.

My daughter could not take Zenpep. She had awful nausea and tummy aches and pooped all the time. She is using Creon plus I still have some Pancreacarb left over which we alternate with the Creon. Our nutritionist is still hopeful Pancreacarb will come back on market.
