The test to see if you are a carrier is a blood test. Usually a family physician or OBGYN doctor can order it, for a male or female. Also, be certain that you have had not just the routine CF screen, but an extended panel testing for at least 100 mutations. The standard quest panel is 25-35 mutations and is less sensitive. I am assuming that your girlfriend has CF? If that is the case, you two might want to try checking out some other posts on the adult site because they list some great info about simple (and not costly) solutions for women with CF who are having trouble getting pregnant, if you two run into that. Some insurance companies will cover the screening as well.
Hope this helps,

Julie

Julie's right it's just a blood test. since you are going to get this done why go the whole nine yards and see a genetics counsellor (I think that is what there called). They will go through your family tree to find any other potential problems that could run in your families like mental dissabilities or MS.

I don't know, I was just throwing things out there to make a point that they can check for problems if they know what problems run in your family.

I'm with the last post. Make sure you explore all your options. Because she could get very sick from carrying a baby. But she may not too. Her cf dr would be very helpful in your decision making process. Eva

Lisa,

thank you for clearing that up, I was just getting the point across that If you are going to get the blood test to test for CF why not find out what other health problems have been in the family and test for those too, just to be safe.
