I dont know for sure, but after another post today regarding moraxrella catarrhalis I wouldnt be surprised. That particular bacteria is common in people with COPD (although CF should be in this category, I havent seen it specified) & it can be contagious. So if this one bacteria is that I am "ASSUMING" that there are others. As a whole tho, I dont know!

Hey Mel,

Having COPD just means that she has chronic bronchitits and or emphysemia it is usually but not always associated with smoking or second hand smoke. Having COPD does not mean that she is culturing anything, though if she was sick she could be, the term COPD really refers to the condition of the lungs....not actual acute thing.. it means she has chronic obstruction....

If she was sick or having an exacerbation then she would be contagious to all of us.just like anyone who is sick... I haven't read anywhere in my schooling about COPD ppl constantly culturing infections like we do...though I guess it is possible.. I would find out from her if she is in an active exacerbation and also what exactly as far as germs if any she has going on. I know she is more likely to get URI and things like that..

I would ask your doctor to see what he says.... but as far as I know.. COPD in and of itself is not dangerous unless they are currently sick...

How is Caleb btw??????

COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease... from what I understand it has nothing to do with harboring bacteria like CF can; however anyone that has respiratory problems has that potential.

Any one with CF is potentially at hazzard of 'catching' something from someone, or somewhere. You just have to be careful, what you do, what you touch, and where you go.
