Cf and Gallbladder problems

Can anyone tell me what the connection between cf and gallbladder issues is?
I've seen plenty of cfers with them.
I had a cat scan done and it showed up 'sludge' in my gallbladder. No stones, but I guess an environment that could lead to it??
For those of you that have had issues, what would you do to prevent problems from coming up knowing what you know now?

I will give what is strictly my OPINION on this issue.

I personally had my gallbladder out about 5 years ago maybe more can't remember. It was diagnosed as non functioning but once they removed it they realized it was full of at least 300 tiny gallstones.

I think that though we are not we are typical gallstone patients. I think that the amount of fatty foods that we take in to gain weight contributes to the build up of stones in the gallbladder and that causes our gallbladder issues. I may be wrong, but that is the conclusion that I came to after thinking about it.

Christian, in people with CF, the gallbladder becomes clogged with thick, sticky, bile, much like the lungs become clogged with thick, sticky mucus.

Quite often, the gallbladder in people with CF is smaller than is normal, so it doesn't function as well; just like a lot of other organs don't function as well. Whether it's from lack of nutrition, or it's because of the thick bile, almost always, the ballbladder eventually stops working properly. There was even a study done about it once, and Dr. Warwick was involved in it I believe. You might google it, and see what you get.

Hey C! Another thing in common for us! Although I've already had mine out. I bumped another post about it and also you can check my blog on here under June 26, 2006 to see a picture of it. Mine was sludge filled by ultrasound as well. The thing on the left is the sludge and one the right is the gallbladder. I've been very happy to have mine out.

DS has been on actigall for liver issues, as well as to "keep his gallbladder happy". It was mentioned that when he gets into his teens, early 20s, he'll probably have ultrasounds on his gallbladder.

My primary care doc said it's because those of us with CF have thicker secretions, not just mucus but everything. She suggested to try actigall to keep secretions from being to thick. I haven't asked my CF doc; so next time I go in I'll have to ask her.
