This is the first time Zeke has had strep throat. Can it turn into a lung infection or typically does it stay in the throat?

I only had strep once or twice when I was little but they treated me right away with oral antibiotics and I don't remember getting a lung infection because of it.

Strep can cause high fever as well as vomiting w/ children, so be on the lookout for dehydration and gi issues- which can be so much worse with those with cf. However, Emily has not had respiratory symptoms with strep and usually it clears up fairly quickly upon starting an abx effective for it. Make sure his cf clinic knows what he was given though. If he's given something that he's already had many times for exacerbations, he might need a higher dose for a longer time than what would be typical for strep.

He's only had one exacerbation (H. Flu. which he has now kicked),and was on something else for it, so I think the Keflex is fine. He's only been on it one other time for a short period for something different. I'm well aware of the GI issues Strep can cause. My little guy has short bowel on top of CF, so we monitor him closely. He's still on IV fluids through a central line at night, so I bumped up his volume until he gets through this and wants to eat more again. He's not having any vomiting issues and seems a million times better already today. His fever is gone today and he's playing, unlike yesterday. I'm now the one feeling awful today...Ah the joys of passing illnesses around.

Yeah- I figured you probably already knew, but felt it was worth mentioning because I knew he had such severe GI issues already due to his CF. Keflex is the drug of choice for strep but in our case, Emily has been on it multiple times for staph exacerbations in the last couple yrs (staph is no longer sensitive to it, so won't anymore) so she might not have a good response to that one in general anymore unless she had a big dose. I'm glad he's been pretty healthy from a resp. standpoint- he has had SO much to deal with otherwise.

I'm glad he's feeling better already today- hope you are feeling better soon too.
