CF Centers in Texas

My husband has been offered a job in Midland, TX. We have talked a lot about it and of course the first thing I did was go on the CFF website looking for CF centers to see what was closest. I also looked on this website. Both had a listing for a CF Center right in Midland. It listed Dr. John Bray as the dr. To make a very long story short, my husband made his decision, told the employer he accepted, gave his notice to his current employer and we are moving. This all just happened today. So, first thing this morning I called that CF Center to ask some questions about routines, policies, etc. Much to my surprise, they are not a CF Center. The first lady I talked to couldn't even say Cystic Fibrosis. I could tell she had no idea what it was....I ended up talking to 4 different people.... All confirmed that Dr. Bray does not see CF patients and there is no CF Center there that they know of. So, now I go to good ole mapquest and find that the closet CF center to Midland is in Dallas which is over 5 hours away. I am dumbfounded... I can't believe they have that listed and it doesn't exist. Does anyone know of a CF Center in that area? Maybe somehow they confused the drs name and phone #... I know it's a long shot but I thought I'd try...

Thanks!

Oh that is terrible! Sorry I don't have any help for you, just wanted to let you know I would be SOOOOO mad if that happened to us.

Have you tried to contact CFF via phone to see if they can help clear it up? Atleast to have them fix their listings if they are wrong.

Yeah, I tried calling them when I got home today but they were already closed. I will call them first thing in the morning.
I am mad...extremely. There are 2 major reasons we decided to move...one is my daughter's sinus problems. We live in an extremely humid environment and since moving here 1 1/2 years ago Kacie has had 5 sinus surgeries (no sinus problems prior to moving).. and the second reason is because we are currently 3 1/2 hours away from a CF Center... I wanted to be closer to one... Midland is a desert environment from what I understand...very dry..so we are hopeful that will help with the allergies and sinus problems. But I am very upset that the CF Center was listed incorrectly. I really really really hope that tomorrow they are able to tell me there is one there, they just had the wrong dr listed or something... there's always hope I guess.

I don't really have anything helpful to say, just wanted to say that that really sucks.

Perhaps y'all can find a pulmonologist and ENT that you really like in Midland and then augment it with the clinic in dallas? Also, if you book out in advance it's $39 or $49 each way to fly between midland/odessa and Dallas. You'd have to deal with transportation once you got in town, but if this would help to save time... Love Field to the CF clinic is not bad at all in Dallas.

Only other thought is if the CFF is correct and there is a clinic in Amarillo, that would be about a hundred miles closer and much easier traffic wise. However, I don't personally know anything about this clinic. Also, Austin is slightly closer to Midland than Amarillo, but the roads are a little smaller, so in ideal traffic conditions getting to Austin would take longer, but in reality where there will likely be traffic, it might be about equidistant.

Best of luck!

I have heard that there is a CF center in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Bray in Midland, Texas does see CF kids( Call 1-800-sleep) and it won't cost you to call him.

Hm actually if you have to go to a CF center I would suggest San Antonio.
If you go from Midland through San Angelo it's about (guessing) 4 hours.
2 hours from San Angelo to Kerrville, about 45 Minutes from Kerrville to San Antonio, and it looks like possibly another hour from Midland to San Angelo.

Dallas is ok, they do have the Ronald McDonald house there for overnight stays and stuff (they have on in San Antonio too), but the city is really busy, etc.
With San Anton. I've found it to be more laid back, but definitely great quality care, Santa Rosa is one of the best CF clinics I've been to and the best CF Doctors I've ever had.
Especially for ENT's, since moving that is my one big regret.
My ENT wouldn't move with me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">

There's pro's and cons for each naturally, so who's to say.

Additionally Midland to Dallas would be more like 6 + hours away, not 5.
toss in another 45 mins. for traffic, bathroom breaks, etc.

Kerrville to Dallas: 295 miles, took us about 6 to 6 and 1/2 hours with a lunch break.
Midland to Dallas: 330 straight on 84 so.. yeah.
