Every time we go to the doc and my daughter has a cough, he says it doesn't sound like a CF cough... what does a CF cough sound like?
And as a side note, I'm curious, we've often thought about getting a stethascope so we could keep a better eye on her... see if a cough is worth a trip to the doc. Has anyone else done this? My husband and I aren't doctors but we figured after listening to lungs for the next 18 years, we'd probably get pretty good at it.

Did you go to a regular doctor or a CF doctor? The latter tend to know WHAT to listen for. Past experience, we've been told that DS' lungs are clear, that he's fine, that a cough for cfers is normal, only to find that DS is sick.

DS is 5 and his CF doctor indicated that he shouldn't be coughing and if he is, to contact their office. We have been told to learn his cough -- is it post nasal drip, wet, productive, bronchial... Last summer DS had sort of a dry, swallowed wrong cough, which I didn't think anything of until he cultured Steno Malt. -- got put of ABX for that and the cough went away.

The specialist is the one who talks about a "cf cough". When my dd was younger and had been coughing a lot, he said it was an asthma cough, not a cf cough... put her on flovent and the cough went away. She will still get a cough occasionally now... the specialist doesn't seem to worry unless she's had it for 2 weeks, then he'll put her on abx. I was just wondering if there's a noticalble difference between a cold cough, the dry thoat tickle cough and a Cf cough.

I tend to think of CF cough as those I've heard at the local CF clinic, more of a productive, chestier cough. Of course yesterday I was at a workshop for work and sat next to a lady in her 30s who I know from Great Strides and other than a little minor throat clearing, she didn't make a peep.

Could be allergies as well, this time of year. In any event, we increase CPT treatments when DS gets a bit of a wheeze or cough. He sometimes tends to get more sinus, postnasal drip issues.
