CF Event Last Night

My husband and I attended our first CFF fundraising event last night. It was a chef's fantasy type thing with 6 course dinner with wine. My friend (Chef Brian Doyle from our site) along with many other chefs donated their time and resources. My FIL's company has been the core sponsor for 30 some years and funded our way (they never imagined it would hit so close to home for him one day). Both sets of grandparents were at our table and it was the first time we all openly talked about CF as a family.

They had silent and live auctions and raised in total over $170,000 dollars!!! I was overwhelmed by it all...had to go to the ladies room after the speaker (physician and mother to 3 - one with CF) spoke about CF from her perspective. It just felt so overwhelming that so many people were doing this indirectly for our son.

And to top it all off, we see our neighbors there! He owns his own company and without ever saying anything, was a level 2 sponsor. We didn't know they were even going much less donating. I have no idea if they always have or if this is just since Ben has come along. I was very touched by this.

Anyway, my daughter is doing something special to raise some more money for both the CF and our local children's hospital where Ben was before he was diagnosed, so we are glad to be more involved. We wish all of you who are doing great strides this year all the luck in the world! Maybe next year we will try to get a team together. We just have our hands full this year with Julia's idea. Will share more as I get closer to finishing it with her.

I just wanted to share our first experience with our local CFF chapter. Just really feeling the support today.

It's amazing how communities can come together to support those in need. It's great to hear the success that the event had!

Thats amazing Jody!!! I know what you mean about feeling so overwhelmed by it all. I just started doing the GreatSTrides stuff and friends and family all over the country have contacted me. Right now we have 6 teams in different cities doing fundraising. And the generosity of people in my life is just sooo overwhelming. I'm a baby, it makes me cry so hard. <br>

I'm thrilled to hear about that very large amount you had raised last night -- incredible!!! Let's all keep working hard, and hopefully someday there will be a cure!!!

Ooooh, Jody, you're inspiring me to start looking into the fundraisers finally. After seven months with theis diagnosis, we may jolly well be ready to move into this new phase. Congrats on a job well done. Good on you.

Thanks everyone...we are all doing things to help, even just supporting each other. Mariannell, it took us until now to feel ready and he is almost 3. I would have cried through the whole thing up until now...this year only a little in the lady's room ;-)

I believe this is what community is all about...supporting each other and keeping a positive outlook on life. Embrace life each day we have it...let it transform you.

Sounds like a wonderful evening and one that will always be cherished. I love to hear all the folks behind the scenes who make it happen. It sounds like alot of love was in the air that evening.

My parents have been involved with the cFF since I was eight years old or younger. My Dad has been president of the NY chapter forever.

The friends you make are lifetime friends.
