Cf & gut troubles

Hello,

I am a mom of a 15 month old boy. We have had troubles with him
since he was 9 weeks old. Yesterday we went to see a pulmonary
doctor, and she is suggesting he has CF. So we are going for a
sweat test....

I am wondering how though.... he has a LOT of gut troubles, is on a
feeding tube, and has had a few chest infections... is it
possible that he is starting out by having more gut problems then
lung problems? Any one else had this happen?

Thanks,
Yes it is possible, I was diagnosed at 9 months because of gut
problems. I never really and still don't have many
respiratory issues.

I didn't have anything to speak of in terms of lung problems until I was 13. I was diagnosed at birth because I had meconium ileus. Even now that I'm 26, my ongoing problems are with malabsorptioin, and my lung function is still decent.

Absolutely it is possible to start out having more tummy
problems than lung problems and I wish that more doctors on
the front lines (our family practitioners and pediatricians)
recognized that.

This is my own personal crusade lately as I'm still feeling so
guilty that my DD, who only presented with
GI issues, wasn't diagnosed earlier.

I will be hoping for the very best outcome for you and your family
and I think you will find this forum to contain some very helpful
information if the diagnosis is CF.

Good luck,
