HI I AM 21 YEARS OLD I KNOW SOME THINGS ABOUT CF BUT NOT EVERYTHING, MY BEST FRIEND HAS IT. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF PEOPLE COULD GIVE ME IDEAS OF HOW TO HELP HER BE MORE HEALTHY. SHE HARDLY EVER HAS AN APPETITE AND GETS ANGRY BECAUSE SHE CANT GAIN WEIGHT. WE LIVE TOGETHER AND GO TO SCHOOL 15 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME SO SOMETIMES WHEN WE GO HOME TO VISIT SHE HAS DO THE HOSPITAL VISITS FOR 2 WEEKS AND THAT TOO MAKES HER MAD. I TRY TO MAKE MEALS AND STUFF TO TRY TO HELP HER TO EAT. BUT I AM GETTING WORRIED BECAUSE SHE USED TO NEVER EVER COUGH OR HAVE TO DO HER TOBI AND NOW SHE HAS TO DO IT 2 TIMES A DAY AND COUGHS LIKE CRAZY ALL THE TIME. I ALSO TRY TO POUND ON HER BACK AT LEAST EVERY OTHER NIGHT BUT SOMETIMES WERE JUST CRAZY BUSY FROM SCHOOL AND ALL. I JUST WANT HER TO BE HEALTHIER HAPPIER AND MORE ENTERGETIC. SHE ALSO IS VERY SELF CONSCIOUS ABOUT HAVING IT AND ALWAYS WANTS IT TO BE A BIG SECRET. WE ARE REALLY CLOSE BUT I SOMETIMES GET FRUSTRATED WITH HER BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE SHES NOT TAKING CARE OF HERSELF......I DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT IM ASKING HER...JUST SOME GENERAL FEED BACK I GUESS...IF SHE KNEW I WAS EVEN AT THIS WEBSITE TYPING THIS SHE WOULD PROBABLY BE SO MAD. THANKSKATE

Hey,IF she does not have much of an appetite then maybe she should have boost or something with her meals. As far as you cooking for her and such, that is wonderful. She should have some sort of physio that she can do on her own, i know some people have "the vest", i have a "PEP mask" and others have a "Flutter"... You are a great friend and have taken on a lot. Maybe try making a schedule with her for when she should do physio. Maybe suggest going to a gym together (don't knwo if that would work though with your school), turn everything that she should be doing into a "we" thing, that way she won't feel so "alone" in it all. Exercise is a great thing to clear airways, especially if she is not doing physio properly. Laughing clears gunk out too. I hope some of this helps. Email me ANYTIME, juliebowers007@hotmail.com with a subject as something to do with CF.(or if you have MSN messenger add me as juliebee19@hotmail.com)Love JuliePS, almost all CFers are stubborn about treatment at some point. In a school environment it is no wonder she wants to act "normal"PPS cook high fat foods, and pasta works great. And if you are worried about gaining weight then go with her to exercise **smiles**

Kate, Hey, I'm in my last semester of school and I know how hard it is to take care of myself and live the college life. With everyone bitching at me to take care of myself, I just got more annoyed. I had always been really healthy growing up, hardly needed physio, was at a good weight, and did what ever I wanted. I got really sick several times. What a pain! I've had to take a few incompletes in order to get the course work done, but i've worked it out. It was only when I realised that MY LIFE IS FOR ME, and I have to do everything for myself that I started taking good care of myself. It's something your friend is going to have do for herself. But you can help.IF she doesn't know about this site, show her.She can come here and ask questions and vent, and feel "normal". Talking to her directly might just annoy her, so support her in other ways by loving what it is you love about her. I think working out togeather is a really good idea.Debbie 23 w/ CF

Hey I just want to say you are a great friend and she is lucky to have you. Keep cheesecake and bon bons around for when she's feelin crappy that'll help her with weight and you don't have to try to talk her into eating. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> mommyofozzy
