Thanks for all of your input on the stick....yesterday stunk. He was so tramatized by the whole thing....I'm glad it's over. We have our visit with the endocrinologist today to review the results. Does anyone know what levels are "good"? He was running between 88 and 149. I can't even believe I didn't ask this when I was there....overwhelmed I guess.

I was diagnosed with CFRD May 2005 and orginally they wanted me to be under 120, 2 hours after eating. That is really hard to do so now they said 140, 2 hours after eating. They also want my fasting readings to be under 100.

I think though it is different for everyone based on age etc. So, I would talk with your diabetes doctor and I would also reccoment that the diabetes doctor is familiar with CF and works with CF Diabetic people.

CFRD is very different because we need to eat and have all those calories which comes alot from carbs. My CF dr's philosophy is to eat whatever I want and chase it with insulin.

I however do watch what I eat in terms of spreading my carbs out over the course of the day and I limit if not at all desserts. I also DO NOT drink regular pop and drink light juice.

Hope that helps

Normal B.S. range is about 80-120I am pretty darn sure.
I remember being tested in 8th grade for diabetes and having slightly high (like your sons 149) sugars. At the time they told me I was borderline and that I would need to be checked every few years or so. I don't know if they still consider that borderline diabetic or not, but do let us know.

How was your son with all the testing? Did he handle it okay? I know you seemed concerned about it. Let us know how everything goes.

I hope things get better with this poking ordeal... It was daunting to me, and I'm 28! So, know I'm thinking of you.

I ranged between 85-95 fasting and 150-250 2 hours after most meals (if I don't take insulin). When I take insulin, its more like 110-120 after meals. I've been told the magic number after meals with or without insulin is within 20 points of what it was pre-meal. They are trying to get your body back to what it was pre-meal to know if you're processing the carbs correctly. For example, if my pre-meal is 100 and my post meal is 140, it is still a bit high cause it should be more around 120 at the highest. Make sense? This is what I was told in the study for CFRD I recently completed for CFF. I've also been told this by a couple of CF docs.

However, if your fasting is already high pre-meal, you deffinately need to look at insulin, cause just getting it down to another higher than normal number post-meal is not necessarily a good thing if you were too high to begin with.

I know its all overwhelming... I feel overwhelmed by it still. Just know you're not alone.
