CF's Warped Perspective

So at lunch I heard the new's teaser about lots of "baby food being recalled." Momentary panic (DS still uses puree prunes for enzymes) as I grab the Ipad and search. I find the headlines and let out a sign of relief when I get to "recall because of glass" without even knowing which brand it is, because it's only glass...not a nasty bacteria!!! (it's another brand anyway, I found as I read more slowly).

As someone whose fed her child green (moldy) shredded cheese on his nachos and recently ate recalled hummus with no problems, I can relate. :)

:) Glad the baby food had no bacteria or glass. Reminds me of many years ago when my daughter with CF was throwing up and super sick. I was trying to discern whether she had a bowel obstruction or just a stomach virus. I called one of the Mom's who is in the "know" about what germs were going round at school and I was so grateful it was only the norovirus, not an obstruction. When my friend told me all the kids were throwing up that week, I sighed thank god, she must of thought I was so weird.

I can totally appreciate that too, always wondering if there's an obstruction! Last ER trip it was just a stomach virus but it was IDENTICAL to how he was with his DIOS ER visit!! And oh, yes, we had the panic over the moldy grape juice (new bottle that apparently can grow mold if it is dropped in handling because it "pops" the seal even though you don't know it!

I don't really have experience with the baby food, but I had to laugh. It really is amazing how CF can change perspective.

My sister, who is in college, texted me one day because her class was discussing health insurance. One kid raised his hand and complained about a $1,000 bill for something. My sister then raised her hand, and said that's what a third of a day costs for my hospital stays. Not even the meds, food, treatment...that's just the price of the room "rental." When she texted me the story, I laughed. I'm not sure I'd know how to handle a $1,000 bill. I'd be happy, but also probably think a huge mistake had been made. My reply to my sister's text was: I didn't know medical charges could be so cheap!
