Chest pain & queezy stomach?

Hi everyone!

My seven year old got to school and was complaining of chest pain yesterday. I thought maybe it was from a new medication - symbicort, which can cause chest pain. She was sick to her stomach the night before, and threw up at about midnight, but she was fine in the morning. I took her to the doctor yesterday, and he thought maybe she had some acid reflux, and a touch of gastrointestinal bug. She's acting fine, no fever, and runs around the house like nothing is wrong, then she'll come up to me and say she might feel a little like throwing up - but never does. Anyways, my question is, can acid reflux cause pain right in the middle of the breast bone? and how do you know if it's acid reflux? What kind of questions can I ask a seven year old about her pain that she would understand? I asked her if she feels sick like throwing up, or does it feel like a burning kind of feeling and she tells me she doesn't know. Anyways, any info concerning acid reflux would help.

Thank you!

It sounds like acid reflux to me. I also get pain in middle of the brest bone and me 4yr old son does also. I think that the only way to tell for sure is to do a scope to look for damage in the esophogus but I'm not sure. That is how I was diagnosed at 17. You could try to give her tums and see it that helps. My son is on zantac and previcid and is going to see a gi because he still complains of the pain every day and more so when he eats. If she does throw up it might make it feel better because her stomic wont be full of stomic acid.

It could be acid reflux. I know that it does cause upset or stomach pain. I would maybe try Prilosec or Zantac and see what it does. With CF I think most kids have the acidic stomach issues. Hope it gets better.

If it's more pronounced when lying down then that also supports the acid reflux idea. And yes it can get to the point that it even tastes nasty all the way up to your sinuses! ~Juliet
