How often do you cfer's get chest xrays? My husband hasn't had xrays in 10 years. I guess I'm just wondering if we should ask to have them done.

I get xrays about every 3 months or so, maybe ever 6. I get ct scans at least yearly, but I have M.A. and they monitor its progressiveness with those.

I also had some pneumo issues so i had like 10 xrays in a weeks time, and then another 4 two weeks later...

xrays help show the scarring a bit, and ive heard most clinics like to do them at least yearly so they always have something to compare the progression of the disease to each year I believe.

Interesting. I haven't had a chest xray since diagnosis (about 6 years). I asked my doctor if I needed to get one a few years ago, and she said they will only do it if they suspect something is wrong since I will likely be exposed to a lot of radiation the rest of my life. I am at an accredited CF Center and will be sure to bring up the once a year recommendation at my next appt

I get an x-ray done once a year, along with a full panel of blood work. Better be safe then sorry!

Please excuse my mistake. It is not a suggestion by the CFF for annual execution.

Here's more info...
The role of chest imaging in the monitoring of adults with CF has not been extensively studied. Standardized chest radiograph scoring may be useful in documenting the progression of disease or response to therapeutic intervention.2728 The committee did not support the use of annual surveillance chest radiographs but reached a consensus opinion that posterior/anterior and lateral chest films should be obtained every 2 to 4 years in patients with stable clinical status. Imaging also should be considered for patients with signs or symptoms consistent with a significant acute pulmonary exacerbation, pneumothorax, lobar atelectasis, or hemoptysis. Chest CT scans may be appropriate in certain clinical situations but cannot be recommended on a routine basis.
