Chronic Pain

For the past few months I've began taking 3 iburovens every day just to function. I'm always aching all over, like my arms, back, hips, etc. I don't know what is causing it, but if I don't take something for it all I want to do is lay in the bed. It's not terrible pains, just achy. Does anyone else experience this and is it okay that I take that many ibuprovens every day? I don't really like tylenol because I don't feel like it helps as much.

I know what you mean, I go through periods where it seems like for weeks even months I'm living on Advil because my body aches all the time. Then out of no where I'll be fine for another couple of weeks/months. I'm not too sure if its CF related or more due to old injuries. I know taking a lot of Ibprofen can be hard on your stomach just like taking a lot of Tylenol is hard on the liver, but if I hurt I usually end up taking something for it. Some other things that I've found that help sometimes are taking a hot shower/bath and soaking for a while or a heating pad.

I love taking hot baths when I'm aching, but then I don't wanna get out of the tub <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> It has gotten to where I ache all day long and I guess the ibuproven helps because it's good for inflamation so it probably helps me feel better lung wise too.

Yeah ibprofen definitely helps me more too. I've been to the point where I was taking 2-3 Advil every 4 hrs so 3 a day probably isn't too bad. Make sure you have food in your stomach though because prolonged ibprofen use can cause stomach bleeding. I keep joking with my parents we need to figure out a way to get my docs to write a script to get a hot tub for therapeutic reasons, that would be perfect! lol

I ache all the time too. Some days it is at the point that the only thing that will help is a burst of prednisone and some vicodin.

I think it is Cf related. Way too many of us experience it.

Yeah I think the med centers are falling behind. Mine hates to write for pain meds. I pretty much have to demand then (even at that i get like 15 tramadol). But over on ENT they'll usually ask ¨do you want something for pain¨ If you say yes¨, The next question would be ¨what do u want. Getting to a pain management facility is difficult.. If anything helps let me know. I'm on almost 2.5g of tylenol a day.

When I get achy I know I am low on magnesium. If I bulk up on magnesium it goes away. Just make sure to take calcium with it to avoid diarhea. I asked my dr whether I could take too much and he said normally your body will filter out what it doesn't need and will be excreted through your urine. Maybe try to take some and see if it helps.
I cannot take ibuprofen because of hemoptysis problems.
Also you could add some Epsom Salt to your baths which is magnesium sulfate.
Good luck and hope you find something that helps.
