Cipro (again)...

Sean was just put on Cipro for the first time. He's had a cough for a while now and started coughing up "greenies". His Dr. put him on Cipro based mostly on what she's been seeing in other patients, Sean's history, and the fact that it's the holidays (a lot of people contact). Anyway, he's only been on it for two days and is starting to experience diahreha. He's less than thrilled about that given he still has 3 weeks to go. He didn't want to go to school today because he was so worried about having to use the bathroom so often. Any suggestions to help him out?

Thanks.

Yogurt? DS had this problem with a different form of augmentin last Spring. Doctor wanted him on it for a month to clear up his green nose. Stuff just ran thru him. I increased his enzymes by half a capsule, bought milk with acidopholis and pushed the yogurt. The pharmacist also contacted the doctor and changed the strength and times a day taken. Seemed to even things out. Antibiotics clean out the good flora in the intestinal and stomach tract.

I would give him probiotics for sure (more than just yogurt bc yogurt doesn't actually have many live cultures - the sugar in yogurt kills the live ones) bc cipro can be a real doozie on the bowels! See the probiotic post for more info!!! Hope he gets better soon!

When Jaden was on it she got the poopies, it wasn't to bad but then she can be home in a diaper too. We did increase her enzymes and it helped alittle. Did you call the school to tell them so they would understand if he needs to go pretty often? Hope he feels better.
