Cleaning the Altera?

When I first started my Cayston about 9 days ago, the treatments probably took 1-1.5 minutes. Now they seem to be taking longer, not too long but probably around 3 or 4 minutes. Anyways, I clean it just like the instructional video the CF pharmacy sent me so I don't know what's going on. Is there some other way to clean the metal head so it works faster or will it just keep getting slower and slower?

I use the TRIO and the Alterra and yes it is going to slow down as time elapses which is why you should be getting a new metal head with each order of Cayston if you get it from Foundation Care pharmacy which is where I get my stuff. To clean the Alterra metal head rinse thoroughly with warm to cool water and then put in a plastic bowl and swich it around with a drop of liquid soap and water. Then when not in use store in 70% Isopropyl Alchol in a little container. At end of day you need to sterlize the metal head which can be in the Avent IQ steamer which I use or on the stove with some water and boil it for a few minutes.

Now if you are doing all that and you still have issues then try using distilled water instead. Maybe your water has too much minerals and stuff and it is clogging the head

Good luck!

Thanks Jennifer! I'm already doing all that, so I will try with the distilled water and see if that helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

No problem! Since your metal head is clogged the distilled is not going to unclog it but hopefully it may not get worse. See if your pharmacy will send you a new head since it is so clogged and that you got the suggestion to use distilled water so hopefully a new head will stay somewhat clean. I gotta say I used distilled for a LONG time and my metal head still slowed down. It takes me 10 minutes to do Alubterol. Kinda of a bummer when you know the capabilities of the TRIO or Alterra. It is like a tease, HA HA.

Good Luck!
