cleaning vest that has vomit

Yesterday Samantha refluxed badly and vomited on her vest. We tried to just wet wipe it. It still had a horrible odor. Today I pretty much soaked the section that was vomited on with hot water and soap. But I think it still smells. Can we stick it in the washing machine on a gentle slow cycle? I know it says it should only be surface cleaned.

I am of no help. My best idea would be to call someone from the Vest company, or maybe Sami's CF doc. I'm sure they've run into that problem before.

Definitely contact the company, but until then try viniger & baking soda mix to clean the area. The rinse with water & let dry. Dont saturate it. The combo should help with the order!

I recently contacted the vest company from HIll-Rom because one of the hoses in our vest system had a hole. They replaced both tubes and also sent a new chest vest(I said it was wearing out, which it was) and sent us a new carrying bag for the vest. They delivered all this stuff via fedex. Perhaps the company would just replace the chest part of the vest for you.

Hi everyone,

We are going to contact Hill-Rom about a replacement vest. Melissa- the vinegar and baking soda did wonders for the odor, thanks! I also rubbed some Purell on it afterward. But it's been through the ringer, so I wouldn't mind just starting with a fresh new one!

Merry Christmas everybody!

I am glad the mixture helped in the meantime. I wouldnt think the smell would make doing the treatment easy......EWWWWW. LOL. Definitely get a new one. When I called to get my new foot control, they asked if everything else was ok, vest, tubes etc. They told me if there is a problem with anything that I better not hesitate to call! Good Luck!
