clear x-ray--cf still a possibility?

Our daughter is going to have a sweat test on Wednesday to rule out cf. She has been determined to be a "failure to thrive" toddler. Her chest x-ray came back clear of anything (fluid, scarring..). Does a clear x-ray give us some hope that she does not have cf or isn't that really much of an indicator?

Unfortunately a clear x-ray does not indicate no CF. In fact, a few days ago Emily and I were being nerdy and reading studies about CF, and came upon one called "X-Ray Results in CF: Who Cares?". The vibe was that an x-ray is not always indicitive of lung involvement in CF. Also if you have a youngster being tested because of digestive issues more than lung, their lungs really could be clear at the moment. Some people don't have lung problems until later in life. Good luck-- keep us posted on results! <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

It is true that although a chest xray can detect damage that may be CF related, a doctor can't just look at an xray and say "yes this person has CF" because so many different causes and diseases can create lung damage. The sweat test is a good place to start. If that is inconclusive, or you simply want something more (which is reasonable) there are blood tests that can be done.

How was the sweat test today? Hopefully it was negative, but if not, please know that we are here to offer help/support.
