I have seen patients wear them, but it is not required by our clinic. They do not allow anyone to wait in the same room tho. There have been days that I ran late for my appointment (since I am so far away) & it screwed up their scheduling so they had people stuck all over the place so we wouldnt be with each other.
I answered on the family section, because I didn't know this one was here. I don't have to wear one, and I don't think it's required by my clinic. If it's required at all, it'd be for people with really resistant bacteria, like cepacia. But even that I'm not sure about.
My clinic requires me to wear one most of the time because I'm multi-drug resistant. I'm also required to stay in my own seperate room when I go to the hospital away from the other patients, and I have to wear a mask if I leave the room. Basically, it's more for my own protection than anyone else's.
No masks required at our clinic (cute kid, by the way!!!!). But if we'd have known what we know now about the potential for contracting germs at a hospital, I know my husband would have been wearing them. Now he wears them to keep from catching any germs, but of course, it's basically to late since he already has cepacia.
We are required to not only wear masks upon arrival at the check in desk, but also to use antibacterial lotion? (can't think of the right word).
I understood that this was protocol set by the CFF, maybe I misunderstood. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
We only wear one if we are sick or have an increase in cough(SARS scare). We have different days for Cepacia patients and if you must come in on a CEPACIA day or vice versa they put you in a room right away so you are not near the other group. They also scrub down every room before each patient so there is a low risk of germ sharing. Ive never had a problem.
