Coconut Oil

At Colby's last clinic appt. he was in the 10th percentile! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0"> He seems average to me, but we are now concentrating on moving his weight up that scale! My dietician wants us to add 1 tsp. of oil to his diet per day. I have been adding coconut oil into his rice cereal. Is this the best (healthiest) type of oil to be giving my 10 month old or is there another method that would be a bit better for him? I have heard tons of good things on this oil and thought I would give it a try?

Any other suggestions?/

I would start at a lower dose and work up to 1 tsp. Coconut oil can cause diarrhea when you start at a high-ish dose. For me, taking coconut oil, healthy carbs and sea salt "together" (in the same meal or within about the same hour) had the most benefit. They seem to work together, synergistically.

My son wcf beefed up considerably in part by eating more protein. But we were also working hard on making our home cleaner and greener -- moving to non-toxic cleaning methods, etc.

Good luck with this.

DS has the same mutation and we add olive oil to his pasta, casseroles... I also would use butter, coconut oil to cook his pancakes. The problem is if he sees the butter, he won't eat it -- picky eater. We also use whole milk with cream to mix up carnation instant break fast. If I feed him cereal, I mostly use cream instead of milk.

Assuming he's on digestive enzymes, so you may have to bump up his enzymes if he starts to get looser, greasier, more frequent stools...
