Cold Sores
So for the last 6 months I have been getting cold sore outbreaks, more than usual. I would take 1500 mg? of Valtrex a day at the first sign of a cold sore coming. That worked for a bit...NOW I am taking 1000mg? of Valtrex everyday to keep them at bay. Well it's been a month and a half and I have had NO outbreaks up until one week ago. I have had two outbreaks but they appear already scabbed over and are usually gone with in the next day. Why is this happening? Could it be because of the CFRD and my age and I'm gonna be going through the dreaded menopause soon as I am 43yrs old.... Any input help would be great. (PS) I DO NOT TAKE ANY ANTIBIOTICS AT ALL NOR DO I TAKE ANYTHING FOR MY CF BUT MY ENZYMES AND VITAMINS... Thank youQueen of Cold SoresJina
I first started getting cold sores last year really bad - I mean from lips to nose, chin to cheeks. I tried everything (various drugs & many natural therapies) but found the most effective to be ice on the areas regularly after the first sign, alcohol to dry it out & aloe vera to reduce inflammation. Huge triggers are stress & lack of sleep. Really hope this helps you :)

Ugh, I am sorry to read this as I have dealt with cold sores my entire life. It wasn't until abreva came out that I found out there were some Rx stuff you could get. I have a friend who uses Valtrex I think, I use a cream called Denavir, it works wonderfully (though spendy, but well worth it).

I wonder if menopause has got to be it b/c of changes in hormones, stress on the body etc....

Cold sores the kind I occasionally get are in my mouth and I rinse with warm salt water. I have not heard of 'cold'sores on cheeks, etc. That sounds painful. I'm sorry
