Cold Sores

When I went on an antibiotic called Cipro in May I had some sort of reaction to it and I got cold sores on my lips. Luckily I ended up stopping Cipro to go on IV antibiotics Tobramycin and Merem and the cold sores stopped coming. I started to take Cipro again about two weeks ago and took it for about 4 days and I got a cold sore. Then I stopped Cipro and am on Tobramycin and Merem again...but I'm still getting cold sores! Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them as a reaction to a medicine?

I have had this problem, but eventually it clears up with a little topical meds whether I continue the antibiotics that I believe are irritating it or not. A cold sore is a virus & the meds might just be stirring up something in your system.

There is a difference between a cold sore (type of herpes virus) and thrush (yeast infection in your mouth, and VERY common when on alot of antibiotics). Even though they both uncomfortable, they are easy to treat. If you are getting cold sores, ask your doc about an oral treatment to take along with your antibiotics, same with thrush. They work pretty quickly.

here's an important side note:
if you are in fact getting cold sores, NO ORAL SEX when you have them ore for a few days after. You can spread the virus that way.
